the birthday party that wasn't

Since about six months ago, when we first got the question, "Have you thought about what you want to do for Clara's first birthday party?", Chria and I have been pretty sure that we wanted to do something low-key to celebrate Clara's first year in our lives. No pony rides, no bouncy castles, no Dora or Winnie The Pooh theme. Just a nice backyard party with our closest friends and their kids. Perfect, right?

So, low-key is what we went for. And low-key is what we got, aided by a fever and rash that Clara got as an early birthday present. :(

So now, instead of romping in the yard with her friends while we get to sip wine and wax nostalgic with our friends about how fast the last year has gone by, poor droopy contagious Clara is taking her second nap of the day and Chria and I have plans to putter in the yard. We'll still get to sip wine with friends though... Robert and Andie are still planning to come by later, since they don't have a little one for Clara to infect. I hope they like carrot cupcakes, because we have plenty to spare!

**update, 8:56 AM September 16. After sleeping for nearly 13 hours (a Clara first), the birthday girl woke up sans fever. She's still a little spotty, but appears to be back to her sweet little Clara self. Phew!**

Happy birthday to the cutest little sicko around!! It only gets better from here (and in your case, with the sniffels and cranky fever, WAY better!). xoxo

Happy Birthday Clara! Wish we could be there to celebrate (the year, not the rash/fever) with you.

Miss you lots,
The Perrys
