Tips for a successful 9 hour road trip with toddler in tow:
1) Keep a steady supply of girl scout cookies, m&m's, beef jerky, lemonade that you don't realize has aspartame in it until it's too late, and other assorted snack food that you would feel guilty about under any other circumstance. Feel no guilt.
2) Play gas tank roulette- going another 40 miles on fumes is preferable to Clara waking up when you open the car door.
3) Conveniently forget that you've designated the pacifier for nap time and bedtime only. Add road-trip to the permanent list of exceptions.
4) Plan out your rest stops to include more junk food and duck ponds.
5) Become really, REALLY excited about cows, and hone your mooing skills.
6) Convince yourself that the kid really likes to listen to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me podcasts.
7) Keep a brother-in-law in the back seat for entertainment purposes. If you have #7, numbers one through six become optional. (Thanks, Mike!!)

I imagine Mike had a similar expression on his face by mile 200

...nine hours. NINE hours. Poor clara, that just doesn't sound fun.
Too bad they dont make mini (non-toxic, non-aspertame, non-harmful, all bio/organic/slow food) sleeping pills for mini-mes. She looks like she could have used one. I hear ya girl.
Tahoe more than makes up for it in the long run though. Maybe?
Did you all have a blast?
well now i hear ya. mcdonalds playlands totally make sense now don't they? good for you all for braving it!
Oh my goodness! You are brave, brave, brave!!! I'm so proud of Clara. The real question is how did she do on the way home after she realized what she was in for???
we were sneaky... mike was only with us for the ride home.
Maybe I'm just kidding myself, but I think she actually enjoyed some of the drive. Lots of cows to moo at, nap when you feel like it, binky for the whole day, it was like Clara paradise.
