38 week plea

Dear Hazel,

Your due date is two weeks from today, and I'm here to try and persuade you that, as nice as it must be in the little floaty universe inside my abdomen, the world out here isn't really such a bad place either. (And it's not even just heartburn that's making me say things like this.) No need to rush or anything like that. After all, you ARE a Hazlitt. But there are so many people who can't wait to meet you, most of all me and your daddy. As proof of our good faith, it's time for full disclosure: we admit you have three furry older brothers who may not be so excited about your arrival, but they'll get used to you in time- even the mopey one with the big ears. But look on the bright side: you also have a huge crazy extended family who will spoil you rotten with hugs and barbeques and laughter, and a ready-made clique of cute friends your age who you'll have to learn to share your toys with.

And we also promise that your name isn't really Hazel.

love, me
